“Toca Lab” is developed by Toca Boca AB. In this app, you begin with a single element from the Periodic Table of Elements. You perform a variety of experiments to change the element into another element.  As you discover new elements, you begin to fill in the missing elements. This allows your child to experiment on the elements by using electricity, water, chemicals, spinning, heat, and ice. Depending on which type of experiment you use determines what the elements changes into.

The Human Body by Tinybop

The Human Body by Tinybop is developed by Tinybop Inc. The app costs $2.99 to download and contains only one in-app purchase of $0.99 that is not mandatory. It is compatible with the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPad 2 Wi-Fi, iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G, iPad Wi-Fi (3rd generation), iPad Wi-Fi + Cellular (3rd generation), iPad Wi-Fi (4th generation), iPad Wi-Fi + Cellular (4th generation), iPad mini Wi-Fi, iPad mini Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad Air, iPad Air Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad mini with Retina display, iPad mini with Retina display Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPod touch (4th generation), and iPod touch (5th generation) and requires iOS 5.0 or later.

In this app, you can watch and interact with the body’s nervous, skeletal, respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive, and skeletal systems. You can purchase the urogenital system (urinary system + genitals) for $0.99 as the in-app purchase. You can watch as the diaphragm contracts and relaxes to cause breathing, move chyme through the intestines, watch how blood flows through the heart, and move the femur to see how the head of the femur articulates with the acetabulum of the pelvic bone. You can even see inside some of the organs.

There are no images of actual organs/body parts, so it is not graphic at all, if that concerns you. This app is very safe for children and won’t gross them out.

I have found that this app has a habit of crashing every so often. I do not know if it is a bug in the app or not, so if you experience this, review the app and mention that it crashes. Tinybop updates the app eight times, so they should be working on the problem, if it is the app. Except for the crashing problems, this is a great app for children wanting to learn more about how the body works.
